Prediabetes is defined as having an elevated blood sugar level but not high enough to be diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.

29 million people have diabetes and 86 million more have prediabetes. 9 out 10 people with prediabetes don’t know they have it. Without making any changes in body weight or physical activity, 15-30% of these people will develop type 2 diabetes within five years.

Participant eligibility

  • > 18 years of age
  • Body Mass Index > 25kg/m2
  • Recent blood test (within past 12 months) or a history of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) and meet one of the following guidelines:
    • Fasting glucose of 100 to 125 mg/dl
    • Plasma glucose measured 2 hours after a 75 gm glucose load of 140 to 199 mg/dl
    • A1c of 5.7 to 6.4
    • Clinically diagnosed GDM during a previous pregnancy(may be self-reported)
  • A referral from a health care professional may be made, but is not required to participate.
