Korean Wave to take the stage

The UW-La Crosse Music Department is hosting “Korean Wave-Globalization of Korean Traditional Culture 2019” featuring the Global Pungmul Institute. The performance runs at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 6, in Annett Recital Hall, Center for the Arts, 333 N. 16th St. The event is free and open to the public.  

Under the direction of Byoung Sug Kim, the Global Pungmul Institute (GPI) will present a professional concert that highlights both traditional and contemporary presentations of pungmul (Korean traditional drumming). GPI is currently hosting four artists in residence and one artist intern from South Korea. Their performance repertories include Seol-janggu, Samdo Samulnori, Daegeum Sanjo and Sangmo Pangut.

GPI, a Chicago-based non-profit organization, is a community-based cultural and educational organization dedicated to promoting traditional Korean cultural and performing arts.

The event is supported by UWL Music Department, Korean Percussion Ensemble, Office of International Education & Engagement, and Foundation.
